Description
Acri-Bond 205 is a versatile 2 Part Methyl Methacrylate Adhesive (MMA) which can bond many different materials. Such as most plastics including acrylic (PMMA), ABS, Poly Carbonate, PVC, Aluminium and Steel, Carbon Fibre, Epoxy Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic, Glass and Wood. It has a very strong bond to many of the materials listed and has a crystal clear appearance. Acri-Bond 205 is the perfect glue for letter fabrication, aquarium building, sign fabrication, filling cracks, plastic fabrication that requires a strong bond or sealing, any bonding that requires the use of two different substrates.
Acribond 204 or 205?
Acri-Bond 204 and Acri-Bond 205 have the same properties and bond the same substrates the only difference is the speed of the cure.
Acri-bond 204 takes about 3-4min to cure whilst Acri-Bond 205 takes about 6-8 min. Both take 24 hours to fully cure however choose which fixture speed you would prefer to work with and what suits your jobs better. Info on MMA Glues
Structural MMA 2-Part Adhesives are some of the strongest solutions when fabricating a variety of materials. MMA or Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives do not yellow or crack like consumer based epoxies do.
- Creates a waterproof seal (Acri-Bond 290, Acri-Bond 204 and Acri-Bond 205) Extremely strong bond that won’t deteriorate.
- Approx. 6000-10,000 mm of worm length from one 50mL Cartridge (depending on how thick you apply). Easy to use and Apply, the mixing gun and static mixer do all the hard work.
- We will have syringes and suitable needles for any precision jobs available soon!
Whats the difference between Epoxies and Methyl Methacrylate Adhesives? Each has it’s place in different industries and we will be doing a detailed look in our news section in the future, but in short;
MMA Pros and Cons
Pros
- Shorter Cure Times.
- Low prep adhesive which bonds to many materials without the use of primers.
- Has a small amount of flexibility, which is crucial for jobs that have to handle vibrations or load bearing jobs.
- In most cases are crystal clear and never go yellow.
- Are one of the strongest bonds possible for many different materials approximately 25MPa.
- Some MMA’s like Acri-Bond 206 can glue polypropylene and polyethylene based plastics which no other glue can adhere to.
- Have great heat and chemical resistance.
- Have a wide range of specialised usages
Cons
- Don’t have as high heat or chemical resistance as epoxies do.
- Don’t have as high strength as epoxies do.
Epoxy Pros and Cons
Pros
- Epoxies have great chemical and heat resistance.
- Industrial epoxies (not the products found in local shops) have the strongest bond possible approximately 30MPa.
- Have a wide range of specialised usages.
Cons
- Are not slightly flexible like MMAs resulting in cracking and failure of a joint if too much load is applied.
- Clear Epoxies eventually go yellow.
- Have to be surface prepped for the best bond with primers or sandpaper.
- Most epoxies have a long cure time.
Instructions
Use a static mixer nozzle to accurately mix the contents of the 1:1 cartridge. Each cartridge includes one Static Mixer Nozzle Green 1:1, and you can purchase more in 10 packs from our store.
You will also require a 1:1 Static Mixing Dispenser to push the contents through the static mixer. This is the best way to apply it and get accurate, dependable results every time.
Parts to be joined should fit without forcing and be clean, it is recommended to use Acri-Bond Cleaner prior to applying any product to remove any dust and dirt. It is important to let out any air bubbles by dispensing the first part of the cartridge onto some paper until the bubbles are gone. Apply adhesive directly from the static mixer or with a syringe and either 0.8mm or 1.4mm Blunt Needles and assemble while parts are still wet.
If any bubbles arise use a small toothpick or metal pick to pop them before moving to the next step, although most bubbles will disappear when the chemical reaction is complete. Press parts together in firm contact and use a clamp to secure while the glue goes off. Acri-Bond 204 will achieve a working strength within 15min and full cure strength within 24 hours. You have approximately 6-8 minutes to work with the glue before it starts to set off.
