Acri-Bond 290 Clear Structural

$57.75$203.50

Acri-Bond 290 is a clear plastic bonding 2 Part Methyl Methacrylate Adhesive (MMA). It has a very strong bond to most plastics and in most cases the substate will break before the bond. Due to its crystal-clear appearance, it is very versatile making it suitable for clear thermoplastics like acrylic and polycarbonate. Acri-Bond 290 is perfect for aquarium building, structural plastic bonding, sign fabrication, filling cracks and plastic fabrication that requires a strong bond or sealing.

Acri-Bond 290 is a premium-grade, crystal clear two-part Methyl Methacrylate Adhesive (MMA) designed for high-strength structural bonding of plastics and other rigid substrates. Engineered for clarity, versatility, and uncompromising performance, Acri-Bond 290 is ideal for professional plastic fabricators, sign makers, aquarium builders, and repair specialists looking for a reliable adhesive that delivers strength, impact resistance and aesthetics.

What sets Acri-Bond 290 apart is its perfectly clear finish, making it the go-to solution when appearance matters just as much as bond strength. Whether you are bonding clear acrylic, clear polycarbonate, or sealing decorative plastic components, this adhesive remains virtually invisible once cured, providing a seamless result.

An immense advantage of methacrylate adhesives is their ability to reach handling or working strength within minutes of application. While full cure typically takes 24 to 48 hours, most formulations develop enough strength in the early stages to allow for clamping removal, light assembly movement, or downstream processing. This rapid strength build-up is especially valuable in production environments where reducing wait times can significantly increase output and efficiency. It also means parts can be moved, drilled, or machined sooner, without waiting for a full cure, helping to streamline workflows without sacrificing bond integrity.

With an impressive bond strength that often exceeds the substrate itself, Acri-Bond 290 delivers unmatched performance across a wide range of plastics. It excels on acrylic (PMMA), polycarbonate (PC), ABS, and PVC. It also performs well on composites and natural materials including fibreglass (FRP), carbon fibre, MDF, and wood.

Materials Bonded and Applications

Acri-Bond 290 bonds to a variety of plastics including

  • Acrylic (PMMA)
  • Polycarbonate (PC)
  • Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
  • Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC)

Acri-Bond 290 has also shown great results with bonding

  • Fibreglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP)
  • Carbon Fibre (CF)
  • Wood
  • MDF

Acri-Bond 290 will not adhere to plastics with a low surface energy such as Polypropylene (PP), Polyethylene (PE) or Polyolefins. These plastics can be structurally adhered to with Acri-Bond 206 and Acri-Bond Cyanoacrylates also have a great bond when using Acri-Bond Poly Primer.

Some applications of Acri-Bond 290 include

  • Acrylic Fabrication
  • Acrylic Aquarium Fabrication
  • PVC Pipe Cladding Sealant
  • Repairing Plastic Parts
  • Automotive Plastics
  • FRP / CF Repair and Fill
  • Acrylic Double Glazing
  • Boat Repairs
  • Permanently Laminating Dissimilar Materials
  • Filling Hardwood Holes

Versatility of Acri-Bond 290

While bond strength is important, it’s not the only factor to consider when selecting an adhesive. Once fully cured, Acri-Bond 290 delivers a range of additional benefits that can make a real difference depending on your application.

  • When fully cured Acri-Bond 290 can be sanded, grinded, routed and polished to get your desired finish. You can even paint over it!
  • Great Chemical Resistance
  • High resistance to weathering, will not yellow like other products available
  • Can be used in indoor and outdoor applications
  • Waterproofing when applied correctly
  • High Temperature resistance -40 to 140°C

Instructions

Use a static mixer nozzle to accurately mix the contents of the 1:10 cartridge. Each cartridge includes one Static Mixer Nozzle Orange 1:10, and you can purchase more in 10 packs from our store. (we have both fine tip and standard nozzles available for all types of fabrications).

You will also require a 1:10 Static Mixing Dispenser to push the contents through the static mixer. This is the best way to apply it and get accurate, dependable results every time.

Parts to be joined should fit without forcing and be clean, it is recommended to use Acri-Bond Cleaner prior to applying any product to remove any dust and dirt. It is important to let out any air bubbles by dispensing the first part of the cartridge onto some paper until the bubbles are gone, this is generally the first 2-3mL. Apply adhesive directly from the static mixer.

If any bubbles arise use a small toothpick or metal pick to pop them before moving to the next step, although most bubbles will disappear when the chemical reaction is complete. Press parts together in firm contact and use a clamp to secure while the glue goes off. Acri-Bond 290 will achieve a working strength within 16-20 min and full cure strength within 24 hours. You have approximately 6-8 minutes to work with the glue before it starts to set off.
